I have the honor to make the following report in the case of Simon P. Calloway (Col'd) who was beaten by Charles Huff and others in Floyd Co:
From Calloways statement it appears that he had agreed to sell his crop of tobacco to Huff; he delivered it according to contract but Charles Huff (son of the man to whom the tobacco was sold) on the pretence that he had not delivered all of it came to his house at night and in his absence, and without permission or any authority searched the house; Huff was accompanied by another white man; they beat Calloways daughter and abused his wife; they took from the premises a gun and flask of powder belonging to Calloway and left word that when he came up and
