and it could be used for school purposes, the freedmen at both these places have asked to have a school.

An acre of land has been bought by the African Methodist Church at Eastville for school and religious purposes. They ask and deserve assistance, they need a small grant of money and a teacher. They offer to do all the work themselves and promise an attendance of over fifty children. I think the average attendance at the schools above recommended would be about thirty five.

There is a great school work to be done on the Eastern Shore, and, I trust that some of the Northern Charitable Societies may be induced to enter upon it. The people need guidance, some one on the ground who, on it, and from it, can work, represent matters, and appeal as one not constantly there cannot possibly do. One efficient white man, or married couple, should, I think, be established at some central point, say Belle Haven, conduct a large school there, and manage a system of schools under colored teachers, throughout the peninsula.
