aversion to cold water, and even when applications of it are ordered as remedies for sickness, the prescription is frequently ignored; some foolish notion that water is not healthful seems to prevail.

The civilization of the plastic and imitative Anglo African is a loose imitation of that of his former master; a free translation of it into a lower platform of life, but preserving most of its essential features.
