indigent. Freedpeople the same as Whites.

The supply and demand for Labor are about equal.

Schools. There is a great and growing desire for Schools. The request comes from almost every one we meet "Can you aid us in procuring Teachers. The Whites are more opposed to these Schools than in either of the other two Divisions. School house are being built in Christiansburg and New bern aided by appropriation from the Bureau. The one at Christiansburg is a very fine Building for the purpose and well located costing about(1400) dollars and is a credit to the place or would be if the Citizens had aided and were friendly to it but, already notice has been placed upon the house "That it shall not stand" More teachers are greatly wanted in this Division.

4th Sub. Division Bvt. Capt. H.L. Hunt. A.S.A.C. His manner of transacting business is satisfactory. The records are in good condition. The general condition of the Freedpeople is good. They are industrious, peaceable, and generaly obtaining a comfortable living.
