I seek to escape from no work, only to do the best I can for what I have in hand.

Mr Morey, one of my Agents, is now very sick & growing worse - probably with consumption - & I wish two or three days to go & see him once more - as an old friend & Army comrade of mine.

I can put the case so much more freely to you, in a personal note that I have taken this course & I beg you will excuse my not following the routine.

Will you be so kind as to send me a telegram whether I can go for ten days
