was written upon agreement, to give formality to the verbal request of the same day; the purport of which had been fully stated.

Since my letter of November 4th, men have continued to be detailed, and their names reported to me which I have forwarded; except those of the last detail.

Yesterday, the 11th instant, I called again on General Hays, exhibited to him, and read again your letter of September 18th, and also your letter of November 7th, relating to detailing enlisted men for Bureau duty, and stated what I was expected to furnish.

He replied, in effect, that the names of men already detailed could be considered as those agreed upon by us, and that any order from higher authority detailing them would set aside his own. Their names will accordingly be forwarded.

I am Very Respectfully
Your Obedient Servant
