In obedience to your letter of the 9th inst. [[of this month]], rec'd on the 10th - I directed that Brennan be called on and asked whether he desired additional counsel. He informed Mr. O'Brien, who visited him that he had ample counsel and did not wish any more. Before the receipt of your letter, Capt Cook had been instructed from this Office to watch the proceedings in the above case.
