Reports that a man named Thomas an employee of this Dist. was formerly a detective and jailor at Libby prison under the Rebel Gov't. Asks if this man should be retained, when many staunch Union men are out of employment.

I would respectfully suggest that as an [[?]] and active Unionist I had opportunities of knowing very many and efficient services rendered to the Union cause by G.W. Thomas and at great personal risk. His feelings were always strongly Loyal - But few Union men have done so much as he has. I can prove what I say by the bravely loyal of the city -
