was complied with. Upon returning to the house the children found that Mrs Howell had cut up and destroyed the clothing they had left.

A warrant was procured against Mrs Howell and she was brought before the Mayor, and by him sent on to the Hastings Court. To day the case was tried and the Court simply put her under bonds to keep the peace

I have carefully investigated the case and have every reason to believe that justice has not been done these women, that this is a case of unwarranted outrage cannot be denied, and because the child had been sent to ask for her Mothers dues, this woman took the opportunity of giving & cut to her wrath, by cutting and destroying the clothes of three young, and innocent children. The clothing destroyed is in my possession.
