and no purchase being made, Johnson applyed to me for intercession, a communication was written to Mr. Swartz, and handed to him by Johnson, and upon its receipt Mr Swartz handed Johnson the $45, ordering him at the same time to take off his Jacket.  Johnson not complying with this demand, Mr Swartz pulled it off and beat him unmercifully with a "Bull Whip" for no other reason than, that he had sought the aid and assistance of the Bureau.  The case was brought before Justice Gentry, and Swartz was discharged, with the fine of one cent damages, and costs
