Actg Sub Asst Comr

Lieut
On Thursday last, I called a meeting of the colored people, at the "1st African Church" for the purpose of promulgating the cause of Temperance, amongst the colored people of this District I requested the use of the Church, stating the object of the meeting. My request having been complied with, the Meeting was held, and addressed by several prominent advocates of the "Temperance Cause."

The day following the Meeting, one of the Trustees of the Church, waited upon me and presented a Bill of $5.00 for the use of the Church, which they now insist upon my paying.
I would respectfully bring these facts before your notice, to them shew little the members of the Church appreciate the movement for the organization of Temperance Societies in this City, and also to ask, that some action be taken
