in one room, and sufficient ventilation is not allowed.,  With this exception the management of the Jail is good, and well conducted, there are at present incarcerated 71 white and colored.

The County Jail of Henrico is at present almost empty, four prisoners being all that are in confinement, the sanitary condition is good, and the management all that could be deserved. 

In the Penitentiary 390 persons are confined.  In this Institution there are only 160 cells to accommodate so large a number of prisoners, as a rule the prisoners are healthy, no disease of any moment is prevalent and great care is taken to prevent any epidemic 

Measures are being taken to adopt the Northern System of management which will be a great acquisition to the present mode -
