No further extent than to protect an innocent woman from the malicious motives of her husband. This man Woodson is without Exception one of the most vile, and worthless freedmen in this city. The brutal treatment he has shown his family has caused his arrest Several times, and his presence has become a terror to both his wife and children He has been in the Penitentiary for felony, and has also been arrested by Lt Messall late a Bureau officer for ill treatment to this family Being fully aware of the character of this man and as he had his wife arrested on unjust grounds I deemed it my duty to afford her that protection she was justly Entitled to. I have personally known Woodsons wife for a considerable length of time and know her to be of good character and striving hard to maintain by her own exertions her children in a respectable manner.
