1st Div 7th Sub. Dist. Lynchburg
Virginia Novr 28th 1867

Respectfully returned to Capt. R. S. Lacey Agt in Charge 7th Sub Dist. No evidence appears in the within case to show that the Mother of Harriet consented to the childs being Indentured. She on the contrary established to my satisfaction she had not; - that she was able to support the child; & that Harriet said she wanted to remain with Bradshaw because of the threats on his part which frightened her into so saying. There being no record in this office indicating that Harriet's Mother was a party to the Indenture I can't but conclude but that Lt. Wodell was laboring under some mistake or misrepresentation or he would not have signed the Indenture.
