To Lieut MS Reed
Asst. Sup of Freedmans Bureau for the County of Elizabeth City

The Petition of Thomas Bondwell of Hampton in Said County respectfully shows

That he is the owner in fee of lot of Land purchased from one Robert Smith bounded by the lots of Mallery. Lowry and Queen Street That he purchased said lot from said Robert Smith since the late war and the same has been duly transferred to him on the Books of said County of Elizabeth City and the taxes have also been paid by him

That some time since he applied to the Freedmans Bureau of said County for a restoration of said lot to him having learned that it was on its books

That shortly thereafter he received an order restoring said lot to him That at the time he made his first mentioned application he was not aware that the said lot was on the books of said bureau in the name of Robert Smith & he therefore made application in his own name & as such received the order for its restoration and he is now informed that it is necessary for him to renew his application in order that the same may be regularly restored to him as a purchaser from said Robert Smith He therefore respectfully asks that the same may be restored to him as such purchaser and that the order heretofore made in his behalf may be amended.

There's one [[?]] left and this long word seems like it should be solvable, but I can't identify it. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-10-14 19:34:57 Tried...it looks like "parish" something...individual words are sometimes looped together so not sure if 2 words. It is "for a restoration"
