Respectfully returned to Genl Brown with the information that I carried away from the 2d District no papers except receipts for monies paid and shoes issued, orders on which such monies were paid and papers of that character necessary for my own protection. No papers of a general character as necessary for any use else to have were taken by me. The books & papers were turned over to Maj Stone just as I recd them, with such additions as occurred, during my administration which the Lt Johnson of such papers as and were only valuable to me, & were not properly official records
