This Contract, made this 27th,, day of
February, 1866,between Stafford G.Cooke, and
Thomas Jefferson, witnesseth that for, and
in consideration of the sum of five Dollars 
per annum, payable quarterly in advance, 
the said Stafford G.Cooke doth sent and
demise to the said Thomas Jefferson, a
Certain tenement and lot of land,contain-
-ing not less than one, nor more than 
one and one forth acres numbered  
144, and being a part of said Cooke's 
Farm in York County, Virginia, for the
term of one year from January, first,
1866. And the said Stafford G Cooke
doth furthermore sent and demise to the 
said [[Line]]
in acres of tillage land, at three dollars
and fifty Cents per acre, payable 15th day 
of October, 1866.
              The said Thomas Jefferson is
to have the privilege of cutting dead wood
 and down timber, and no other unless 
necessary for firewood for his own use.
Should the said Thomas Jefferson 
fail to pay promptly, any of the above
installments, then the said Stafford G.
Cooke reserves the right of re-entry and 
distress.
