To Genl. O. Brown Commissioner for Virginia.

Your petitioner William H. Curtis would respectfully represent that by entre of an order herewith filed marked "A". of the County Court of Elizabeth City County made December 27th AD 1866 The Estate of Cary S. Jones dec'd was committed to heirs for administration. Your petitioner would further show. that the said Cary S. Jones died possessed of a lot of land lying, being and situated in the Town of Hampton County of Elizabeth City, and bounded as follows on the North by Queen Street, on the South by the lot of B.F. Hudgins - on the West by Lane, on the East by the lot of Elizabeth Gammel. That said lot of land is now held by the Freedmen's Bureau. That no proceedings have ever been instituted against the same. That neither Cary S. Jones or your petitioner his administrator are within any of the prescribed classes of the President's Proclamation of May 29th 1865. That your petitioner has taken the oath as required by said proclamation.

Your petitioner would respectfully ask the restoration of said lot of land. No freedmen will be subjected to any inconvenience thereby, more now in possession of the land shall occupy it the remainder of the year on the same terms & conditions they now hold it of The Bureau.
