The undersigned on behalf of the Overseer of the Poor on Elizth City Co respectfully represents that the only accommodation they have for the poor besides the dwelling in which the Overseer of Poor Farm resides is a small frame one story tenement containing three small rooms at present occupied by a poor white family, - who could however be accommodated in the dwelling with the Overseer's family, in case the colored poor are thrown upon the County. And these are all the means of accommodations the poor which are at the disposal of the Overseers. In regard to rations, the custom has been to furnish the poor with a sufficient supply of cooked food. The present small farm owned by the County was purchased with the view of abolishing the practice of outdoor support of the Poor & only in exceptional instances has aid been granted to any not residing on the farm. The Overseers during the first year after the War endeavored to support what poor there were by selling wood from the farm but deeming it best to provide for the contingency of having the colored poor thrown upon our hands to carry on the Farm on their own account they have run behind hand and have been compelled to call upon the County for a levy of five hundred dollars to meet the debts already incurred.
