General:-
With reference to a letter sent to me direct from your Office dated the 31st October 1867, directing that the case of "Georgianna" a colored child living with Robt Thrift of Powhatan Co. be investigated &c.

I have the honor to state that by reason of sickness in my family I could not get over there to investigate the matter and for the same reason have not been able to leave yet to do so, but on the 4th inst. I wrote to Wm T. Davis Esq. (former Agent of the Bu. chosen by the freedmn) to investigate the matter, learn the wishes of the child &c. and send me a certificate setting forth all the facts he could obtain relative to the matter. But as yet, I have heard nothing from him. He has always been very punctual heretofore, in assisting me in every way that he could, I will attend to the matter in person as soon as I can safely leave my family, but for the present I respectfully ask to be indulged a few days longer.
