Lt. J. B. Clinton

Dear Sir

In regard to the inquires in your note to Ms Davis. Respecting a colored girl named Georgianna Living with me. I would state that her mother went off during the war and left her she has not returned to claim her and there is no evidence of her death her Father I believe is still living, she was in the Quarters with her half aunts, when they left; & had they not considered her an incumbrance then, could and would have taken her, she was at that time five years old & was an incumbrance to me & I was induced to keep her from the fact that I had raised her and did not wish to place her in a situation to be maltreated, she has been well treated is perfectly satisfied & as she is now large enough to be of some service think I ought to be allowed to retain her. It was nearly two years after her relatives left before they prefered any claim at all, I think it would certainly not be in accordance with the requirements of humanity to hand her over to those claiming her.
