York County Virginia, 3rd of October 1866.

To, Genl Schofield, Chief of Freedmans Bureau at Richmond Va

I, Allen Davis of the County of York in the State of Virginia, beg leave to represent the following facts to the Bureau department at Richmond; In the year 1860, my son, (who was afterwards a private in the so-called Confederate Army,) purchased of Mr M B Seawell Trustee for a firm in Baltimore Md a tract of land in the County of York, containing 122 acres. My son owning no property; I became bound for the Land by giving my Bonds for the payment of the purchase money. I have never been in the Army, neither have I aided, the so-called Confederate Army or rebellion. The land was always considered my property, and in my possession, altho' no one lived upon it, except some colored persons, who were free before the war; In the year 1863, a Mr Rodney Churchill Asst Superintendent of freedmens Bureau, went upon the premises, took possession, and as long as he was in office, made my Tenants (the aforesaid free Cold persons,) pay him the Rents, (he also taking the crop of corn then growing on the Farm) And since which, up to the present time, his successors in office, have been doing the same. In consideration of the above facts, I now ask, that the land aforesaid, be turned over to me, and that the Rents
