in all respects endeavoured to use the utmost economy in the Medical Dept Bureau, and to make no expenses which did not seem necessary.

Reports, which I have with each ration return, of the names and ages of persons for whom rations are drawn - Monthly reports from Med Officers of the Sanitary conditions of the Hospital - by sick & wounded (received monthly & weekly) together with other reports - added to communications with superintendants of the various Districts, and the Inspectors of the Bureau, have kept me, so well informed of the condition of the Hospitals that I have not deemed it proper to apply for orders to inspect except where there seemed to be a necessity for my leaving my duties here.
