A Hanover County Va March 26th 1867 Col Ira Ayers Dear Sir Having had my time taken up in attending to the sick& the dead since Thursday last I have not had an opportunity of writing you. I received the Supplies which you sent from Richmond for Watson on Friday, but too late to benefit him. He died Friday Night and I had him decently buried on Sunday. He had ever medical attention which he could have had from Doctr Renzio. The contents of the Box I gave to his Mother, his children & Sawny Dickinson. His children will remain with his relatives. On Thursday the son of a destitute Mother was shockingly burnt & died. I provided for him Medical attention and when dead had him buried decently. Your letter of the 22d reached me on yesterday. I am glad to learn that the Govt will feed yet longer. I do not think the destitutes should be given up until the beginning of summer. I have apprised Surg Brown of the death of Watson With great respect H.V. Graves
