oath present that Robert Johnson Richard Johnson[[crossed-out]] and [[/crossed-out]] Horace Bird Freedmen, whom the evidence of I J Heondly and John A Sadler sent for by the Grand Jury Together with divers others to the member of Ten, whose names are to the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown, on the 26th day of March 1866 at - in the County aforesaid & within the jurisdiction of this Court with force and arms, did unlawfully riotously & routously assemble & gather themselves together to disturb the peace of the said Commonwealth once then and there being so assembled and gathered together did then & there make a great riot, noise tumult & disturbance & then & there unlawfully, riotously routously and tumultuously remained & continued together, making such noises riot tumult & disturbance for the space of six hours then next following to the great terror & disturbance of all the Citizens of the said Commonwealth then passing & repassing in & along the common highway then and against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Virginia-Endorsement thereon- "A True Bill - G. H. Dillurd - Foreman -" And on the same day and year last aforesaid and at the place aforesaid- Robert Johnson Richard Johnson and Horace Bird Freedmen who entered into a recognizance on the 31st day of March 1866, before a Justice of the peace of this County, to appear here on this day to answer for having unlawfully and riotously assembled together to disturb the peace and then and there assaulting and bearing one William I Newbill - being now solemnly called appeared in dis discharge of their said recognizance and prayed that the same might be entered of record which is accordingly done -
The following is the Copy of the Recognizance referred to in the last proceding order - to wit: "Essex County to wit: Be it remembered that on the 31st day of March 1866 Robert Johnson Freedman Jno B Rominson his surety, Richard Johnson Freedmen and E B Blake his surety, Horace Bird Freedman and Thom Bird and Lewis Montague Freedmen and John Moody Freedman his sureties of said County come and severally acknowledge themselves to owe the Commonwealth of Virginia each the sum of Fifty dollars to be respectively levied and made of their several goods and chattels lands and Tenements if they the said Robert Johnson, Richard Johnson and Horace Bird Freedmen
