City and County of Washington} S.S.

On this second day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty six, before me, the subscriber, John S. Hollingshead, a Notary Public in, and for said County, residing in the City of Washington in said District, duly commissioned and qualified, and authorized to administer oaths and affirmations in said District of Columbia, personally appeared James Lavender and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God. That he knows the Bay mare now in the possession of R. B. Howison and described in the annexed affidavit of George Farstnaught: That he saw the said mare sold at Public - Auction by Wall & Co, Auctioneers in May 1862. and was purchased by Wm Mackey: at the time she was so sold she was very heavy with foal: He saw her subsequent to said sale, she then had a colt by her side.
