I have, with great care investigated the asserted claim of P. Haley, which you recommended to me.

I herewith hand you enclosed, the letter of Haley. The carefully prepared statement of Mr T.H. Dooley, a gentleman of unquestioned personal and professional honor. In this statement of Mr. Dooley is embraced the due bills of Doherty to Haley and the receipt of Haley & wife to Dooley.

On the most mature reflection and careful investigation of this case. I have stated to Haley, that he has no earthly chance of success in any civil court- nor in my opinion before any tribunal whatever.

I have taken particular pains in this case because I regarded it as the commencement of such matters, under existing state of affairs. I am sure you will appreciate the motive and concur in the conclusions of
