February 4 1868 Sir I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 1st inst and in reply will state that the proceedings of the trial of Geo W Thompson by military commission were forwarded to Major Gen'l Schofield comd'g 1st Military Dist Va and that it is not in my power to furnish you with a copy of said proceedings I instructed Lieut Ayres to furnish the party who arrested said Thompson with a certificate to that effect. I have forwarded your communication to General O Brown Ass't Comr with an endorsement thereon Very Respectfully Your Ob't Serv't James Johnson Sub Ass't Com'r To Henry B. Gouldman Oak Grove P.O.
