I would most respectfully call your attention to the laws of Virginia, regarding the wages due to laborers and request that an order be issued to ensure them justice until the said laws can be altered or amended.
As the Statutes now stand, a laborer may work all the year, securing for his employer a most bountiful Crop, may gather said Crop and place it in the farmers granery ready for the market and yet in case of the death of said farmer, or even his giving a deed of trust or a judgement is obtained against him for any other debt, the laborer is by shadow of law defrauded out of his years hard earned wages, and he and his family in many instances reduced to want and suffering, and in some cases
