Perry Vaughn (colored) son of Jesse and Sarah Vaughn being duly sworn in reference to the enclosed report, says,

That he in company with his mother Sarah Vaughn, on the 26th of December 1866 carried a letter to the sheriff of P.A. Co. Va. Mr. C.B. Akiss, written by Mr. Thomas P. Jackson, supposed to have contained notice of pardon of his father, and brother, Solomon, and Jesse Vaughn, by the Governor of the state, that the same letter was carried to the sheriff, and by him read to the jailer, and his father and brother, saying at the same time to the jailer and his father and brother, that they have been pardoned, and that when he receive the official notice of the same he would turn them out
