Solomon Vaughn (colored) being duly sworn in reference to the enclosed report, says, 

That on the 26th of December 1866 the sheriff of the Co, Mr C. B. Ackiss, came to his cell while confined in the Co jail, and read a letter to him which he said, was sent to him by Mr Thomas P Jackson, which stated that he and his son Solomon had been pardoned by the Governor of the State, that he requested the sheriff to discharge him then, and the Sheriff stated that that letter was not official (or words to that effect) and he could not let him go, but would get the pardon in a few days, and then he could go, And that on the 27th of December 1866 the jailer came to his cell and stripped him and his son Solomon and laid 10 lashes each upon their backs.

That they were not released from their confinement until the 6th day of January 1867. That the whipping was done in the presence of John Edward and - Kellenn (white) January 7th 1867.
