General,
I had a conversation with you last Friday with reference to the illness of 1st Lieut WG. Roberts, V.R.C. Asst Sup't for the Sub-District of Spottsylvania Co. B.R.F and A.L. - and in that conversation I stated that Lieut Roberts, had been appointed by the President of the United States as 2d Lieut in 43d Reg't U.S. Infty. - and ordered to report to the President of the Examining Board for the examination of officers at Louisville Kentucky - I also stated that he was not able to travel or to rise from his bed, that he was very ill with consumption - I further stated that his wife had gone to Washington to have an interview with the Secretary of War upon the subject of his appointment.
