I then saw a negro said to Corbin, with a pistol in his hand, then Bryant snapped his pistol again; it did not discharge. I got near to the negro Corbin by this time who had a pistol, and told him to "put it up, do not shoot." He replied "that man is after a shooting me!" I told him "he was mistaken" "that it was Wm Veney the constable was after" Veney was there behind Corbin where he had got for cover from Bryant's pistol. I then saw Corbin put his pistol up. As he did so I stepped up to him and caught him by the right arm, and exclaimed to those present, "let us take the pistol from him; he will shoot somebody!" A colored man I think named Thornton Veney caught me by the shoulder and pulled me away, saying "that is not in fair play; don't take his pistol away from him." Corbin at that whirled away from me and I saw no more of the pistol. I did not see Corbin fire his pistol and heard but two shots fired. This is all I know of the matter.
