I was at Shany Hall Sale on the 12th of December 1866. I saw that part of the fight that occurred at the Stable, and it is in every particular as William Glasgo states, except that I was not taken hold of by the parties. He states that I was taken hold of as I was standing by by the side of Cyrus Harding. I said it "was not right for Dudley to strike Glasgo", and that "they - meaning Harding, Dudley & Mc Carty - had been used right by Glasgo." Harding then said to me "damnit, if you take up for a negro, you are no better than a negro." I said in reply. "I'll take up for the right, Black or White." I then went to the house. I saw afterwards a large crowd of blacks congregated between the back porch of the main house and its kitchen. The blacks were loudly calling for Madison Morgan to come out of the house where he had went in. But they did not fight, nor did they threaten any one but the said Morgan. I think that the whole mess, was caused by Hamilton Dudley, and that if he had been arrested, by the Civil Authorities, at the first start, that there would have been no further difficulty
