procured his signature &c. and forwarded to Allen & Latson Army & Navy Agency, 205 Penn Ave Washington D.C. — I have several times since addressed the above named firm upon the subject, but have no reply, later than Feby 2nd 1867, in which they say, "It will be some time yet, but how long, it is impossible to state definitely, before the case of James Brown can be settled."

Brown came in to-day and manifesting some impatience, I told him, I would give him an order on Messrs Allen & Latson for his Discharge &c, which I did do, but since he left I am informed he proposes to report me to Head Quarters, as having collected his money and kept it &c, which is simply absurd. Brown is a common drunkard, and known to be unreliable in every regard, and I deeply regret that I had anything to do with his case and especially that I loaned him any money, as for a day or two after it, he laid about the town drunk.
