Commissioner, State of Va Richmond VA General It becomes my official - yet pained - duty to report the Death of 1st Lieutenant W.G. Roberts Vet Res Corps and Asst Supt of B.R.F. and A.L. Sub Dist of Spottsylvania County, Virginia. Lieutenant Roberts died at 4 1/2 four and a half o'clock this morning. Disease -consumption contracted while in service. He was badly wounded at the explosion of the mine in front of Petersburg Virginia, July 30 1864 at which time his left arm was torn off also receiving a bad wound in his left hip.
