acknowledged the statements of the above three witnesses to be true and correct, and said that he did not beat her as hard as he had wished to.

The case was then left for the magistrates to make decision.  They decided that Francis Amos was at fault and that she ought to behave herself and not to be so saucy, and that she should pay the costs of the suit.

It witness whereof I sign my name this 29th day of March 1867 in the presence of Lieut Henry K.W. Ayres.
