I have the honor to report that I am entirely familiar with the proceedings against R.B. Garnett for the shooting of B.F. Jones (freedmen) and would reccomend that the civil law be allowed to have its course, especially as the time fixed for the trial of said criminal is so near at hand, (13th May) at which trial I shall be present, and note, particularly, the proceedings in the case, and should there be any failure to mete out to this party even handed and exact justice I shall not fail to report the same with all promptness.
