and reported the fellow to the Military Authorities who; sent over here a possee and directed this fellow to leave here as soon as he had gotten out the field some corn he had standing (after Houseing or gathering this corn in /65. Civil authority then turning up this man Garnett then, makes himself easy here, while in the 18th Nov. last/66 he determined to kill or forever disable me. This being accomplished, he was allowed to go at large from the Shooting on or abt. 18th Nov to the county court of K. Wm. Jany Term, was tried before an examing court of Magistrates and turned loose at large on a sham bond of $500.00 to appear before the Circuit Court which convenes in May the 13th. I say sham bond for the parties to the bail are not worth 200$ and further not one dollar, if their just debts were paid. I have that proper to address you this letter for I have serious doubts as a colored man before, a rebel jury of being done justice to. I was the only son of 3 grown brothers who, have remained with a delegate & aged mother to take care of as well as my interest here & now I am no account to either. I entreat you genl. that this man be tried before
