leave, for the purpose of Registering, is false. There is only one man there who has not registered, Viz Sam Benjamin, and he is at liberty to go and register at any time Mr Trice told me in his presence, but the fellow refuses to register. I explained to him the importance of registering, and advised him to do so. So far he has not done so, I think he is afraid to leave the farm. I was never notified by any one, that Trice would not allow the men to leave for the purpose of Registering. As far as I can learn in regard to the shooting at Chew, by Trice, it stands this way, about Christmas 1865, Chew came to Trices farm to move off some of the hands, and some difficulty arose between Trice and Chew.
