Respectfully returned to Bvt. Lt. Col. Jno. W. Jordan, Sub-Asst. Comr who will confer with the Comd'g officer of the troops at Farmville, and if a suitable, enlisted man can be found, he will forward his name to these Hd. Quarters, requesting his detail.

The civil employees in this Bureau, can not be increased at this time.

Respectfully returned to Bvt Brig Gen O. Brown Asst Comr, with the information, that there is but one enlisted man in Co. O 21" U.S. Inf. who is capable of doing the clerical work of this office and he is detailed for duty in the Paymasters office at Richmond, Va - The work of the Sub Asst Comr is accumulating, and I am seriously embarrassed by reason of not having a clerk who is familiar with the [[?]] of such an office. I cannot do it myself and attend to my other duties. I earnestly trust that the Asst Comr will conclude to send me a competent clerk.
