Colonel:
I have the honor to report the following case of injustice towards a Freedwoman of Essex County which was tried at the last Circuit Court, Commonwealth vs. James E. Fogg of Essex County.

Benj. Lomax (col'd) of this County hired his daughter Lucy, who is not quite of age, to James E. Fogg for the year 1866. Some time during the month of November 1866 Lucy took Foggs little child to one of the neighbors house and while there it fell down when playing and scratched its face a little; she returned home in a short time and Mr. Fogg scolded her for taking the child away; Lucy told him "that if he did not like it she could leave the place." Fogg at once struck her in the head with a stick and with a curry-comb
