assume charge of this woman en route, I was induced to bring the matter before the County Court, which convened here on the 7th of this month, when the Sheriff was directed to take charge of her, and by consulting with me determine on all proper arrangements. Thus the woman will be transported hence, by wagon, to "Big Licks", the nearest station on the "Va. & Tenn. R.R.", a distance of twenty eight miles, across the Blue Ridge, and the subsistence of all the parties ensured the entire journey, at the responsibility of the County.

I would further add, that since the date of the accompanying - my original communication, the woman had been removed to the Poor House, but, as I before stated would be the result were this done, without her condition being much improved thereby. When taken out of the jail, she was bare footed, and her thin dress, her only covering, frozen from wet, and offensive with accumulated filth, had to be torn off, & her person wrapped in a blanket. At one period of her incarceration, being unable to
