then hands come. About half way between the place I found Mr. Larenby & Mrs. Larenby's house this boy Sam Robinson & his step father Booker Robinson came in sight. I went to them both, asked them to come & assist us to carry Mr. L. to his Mothers which they very readily agreed to do. In going from the place I found them & the place he was lying at I asked this boy Sam, how he came to knock Larenby in the head. He said that he Larenby tried to whip him the day before & he intended to try him that morning. I asked him why he undertook to fight. L that morning without provocation. He said "that when he approached L. that morning Larenby asked him where he had been. Been to his step fathers was the reply. "The boy said, Larenby said that he had not been there that he had been to report him to the damned "Yankees" I asked him if he did not know he had pretty near killed Larenby. He said he was trying to kill him, wanted to kill him and thought he had killed him.
Q. Did you know of any difficulty previous to that time between Mr Larenby & Robinson?
A. Not till that morning I speak of the morning I speak of Mr. L. came to my factory to borrow a saw.
Q. Was there any evidence of a scuffle at the place you found  Mr. L.
A. None in the world. I looked all around, there was blood on the ax handle laying near by.
Q. Was there any on the pole of the ax?
A. No sir there was none on the pole.
Q. How many days was he senseless?
A. I visited him from once to twice a day & I think it was four or five days.
