I asked him every day I went about the difficulty to ascertain when reason had returned & it was four or five days before he knew anything about it.
Q. What was the character of Sam - was he of a peaceable disposition?
A. I think not at the same time he lived last year within 500 or 600 yds of me & I never knew anything wrong of him.
Q. Who notified Mrs. Larenby that her son was hurt?
A. I do not know.
Q. In your opinion was Mr. L. capable of giving a reasonable account of any transaction prior to three days after the occurrence
A. In my opinion he could not.

Q. Did you attend Mr. Larenby after the difficulty he had with Robinson if so please state what was his condition?
A. I saw him on the day he was injured. At the time I first saw him he was suffering from the effects of a severe concussion of the brain. He had a wound upon the scalp - the front part of his head some where about two & a half inches long cutting through the skin & muscle to the bone, & also to one side of the cut a severe bruise of the skin & flesh. That was the worst severe damage he had, but both of his eyes were closed from what seemed to have been produced blows on the eyes. He was apparently senseless. I saw him once a day for three days, & once a day skipping a day - twice more. On the second day he had  recovered a good deal from the
