Your letter with refference to Julia the daughter of Amanda - was duly received. In reply I would state that Julia would have been returned to her mother immediately after the negros were freed but for the fact I had not the most remote Idea of Amandas thereabouts. I wrote to her several times at Richmond in my name and for her daughters, but receive no intelligence from her untill the early part of the month of May - last.
