Bureau of Freedmen. and Abandoned. Lands. OFFICE of ASST SUPT SUB-DIST EMBRACING CAMPBELL APPOMATTOX AMHERST & NELSON, Cos. VA. LYNCHBURG, Va. Mch 1st 1867. Capt. R. S. Lacey Supt. 7th Dist. Va. Captain: Margaret Harris, Cold. States to me on oath, that in September 1865, one James Keith took her son George, eleven years old into the country, promising to return him in the spring. She supposed at the time he was going but a few miles in the country to live. She has not heard from Geo. since but learns he is living with Keith at Giles C. H. Giles Co. Va. & desires that Keith be compelled to return her son; and asks that the Bureau officer of that County attend to the matter, & at least find out if George is living & well, as she is unable to hear from him by direct communication with Keith.
