Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Lands.

Christiansburg, Montgomery County Virginia,
March 20th 1867.

Capt. Wm P Austin
Supt. 8th Dist. D. of P.

Captain - I have the honor to make the following statement relative to the enclosed communication referred for investigation and report.

The Colored boy George Harris, is in good health, and employed by Mr Gabriel Taylor of Pearisburg, Giles County Va. — who treats him kindly, and is learning him to read and write. Would give him up, if required to do so by the Bureau (although he feels considerable interest in him); but the boy is not satisfied to return to his Mother, and earnestly requests that he may be suffered to remain with Mr Taylor, where he has a good Home. I do not think he would remain with his Mother if forced to return to her.

over.
