Captain,

In reply to your communication of the 11th in reference to the case of Follin, Strother and Cannon, I have the honor to report, that I have had all the parties bound over to appear at court on Monday next (18th inst). Follin and Strother to answer to the charge of Assault and Battery, and Cannon for forcebly entering and holding possession of the premises occupied by the freedwoman, Harriet Follen. I have also secured the attendance of the necessary witnesses.

I will at once secure the service of Counsel (as you suggest) to act in conjunction with the Commonwealth Attorney, Mr Tucker.

I have engagements for both Wednesday and Thursday, to investigate some dificulties among freedmen, hence cannot consistently report to you in person until Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.

Very Respectfully
