I have the honor to report the case of Assault and battery against Joseph Follen and James Strother was not tried today, it being necessary for such cases to go before the Grand Jury which does not neet [[meet]] until the March term of the County Court. I required the parties to renew their bonds to keep the peace and appear at such term of Court, to answer to any indictment that may be found against them. 

The forcible entry and detainer case was settled by the accused, George M. Cannon paying all costs and leaving the premices. 

After this point was cancelled Cannon purchased the Woman, Harriets, right (which was a doubtful one) to the possession of the place in dispute, paying her $25.00/100 in cash, she agreeing to give him possession at the end of thirty days. 

Enclosed find a copy of this agreement, which I approved believing it to be the best arrangement the woman could make, there being no principle involved after the concession by Cannon of the possession to her. 

I consider the result of this case a complete triumph of law in favor of the colored people, of the entire
